The Brig

Below the water line. The lantern gutters. Nibs and Tootles are locked in an iron cage on damp oak planks. A skeleton is propped in the passage beyond. A pirate sleeps with a cutlass across his knees. Lean close.

Nibs in his russet fox hood and Tootles in his bear-cub hood, huddled behind heavy iron bars in a lantern-lit ship's brig, a skeleton slumped in the passage and a pirate guard dozing further off.
