Root & Lantern
Carved oak, brass corner caps, and roots worked right into the cabinet sides. The screen is a cross-section of the ground beneath the woods, and you are the boy with the lantern digging through it. The root-grubs come along your own tunnels after you — hold the pump on one and it swells until it pops, or lure it under a loose stone and let the seam do the work. Eight seams down to the heartwood, and a Root & Lantern stamp for the boy who clears them all.
Arrows to walk and dig, and hold space to send out the pump line. On a touch screen, drag to dig and the pump runs while you hold.
Let go of the pump and a half-swollen grub deflates, so finish what you start. Grubs will slip through solid earth when they lose you. A stone dropped on one is worth more than a pumped one, and the acorns and toadstools at the crossroads are worth more still.
