The Midnight Rounds
Near-black mahogany, tarnished silver corners and a marquee lit the colour of a low candle. You are the manor's night porter, and the magpies have been at the cabinets again. Five landings, no stairs at all — only sprung canvas in the shafts between them. Walk the corridor, bounce a shaft, and time a door so it catches a magpie square: the plain doors throw one down the landing, the bell doors clear the whole floor at once. Gather back every curio on all five rounds and the Postal Society will postmark your own Midnight Rounds stamp.
Left and right to walk and to step off a bounce onto a landing, up or down in a shaft to launch, space to work the nearest door. On a touch screen, hold to walk and tap to slam.
Four bounces on the same canvas and it gives way, so step off onto a landing before the third. Two magpies caught by one door pay double, three pay triple. A bell door over the arch clears every magpie on the floor.
