The golden road runs straight through fields of red poppies and arrives, without apology, at a city made of green glass. Jewelled shopfronts with gold filigree line both sides of the avenue, lamplight glints off a thousand emerald panes, and a striped balloon drifts overhead as if it has somewhere better to be.
