The Sunbeam Tea Room dining room interior

Afternoon tea on the promenade

The Sunbeam Tea Room

Three tiers, a sea view, and nothing at all to be in a hurry about.

A white linen table in the bay window, the striped awning lifting, the whole bay turning silver behind the glass.

The Sunbeam Tea Room attraction poster

The lightest room on the Windward Promenade — cream panelling, tall arched windows, and lace curtains that lift every time the door opens. Tea arrives in silver on white linen, the cake stand comes with the top tier already argued over, and the bandstand starts up at four whether the tea is finished or not.

The bandstand plays at four. The window tables are given away, never booked.
