The Never Woods After Dark

The lanterns go up at dusk — hundreds of them, hung from branches and strung between trunks until the path is a warm seam through the dark. Fireflies work the ferns, mist gathers at the roots, and somewhere past the bend the story fire is already lit and someone is already halfway through a tale.
