The Tall Pine
Sammy Jay
The loudest newspaper in the Green Forest.
Sammy Jay lives at the top of the tall pine, where he can see everything and comment on all of it.
He is a gossip, a show-off and a bit of a thief, and he wears the handsomest blue coat in the whole forest. He knows it, too.
But when a hawk's shadow crosses the meadow, it is Sammy who screams the warning, and every small creature in the Green Forest owes him their life at least once.

The real Blue jay
- Blue jays aren't really blue — their feathers bend light so that we see blue.
- Jays can copy the scream of a hawk to send other birds fleeing from a feeder.
- They carry acorns in their throat pouch and bury them, planting whole oak woods.
- A jay family stays close, and jays remember faces — including yours.
