The story
- First frost. The Smiling Pool wears a skin of new ice.
- Granny Fox tells Reddy the ice is far too thin.
- Reddy, showing off, trots straight out onto the middle.
- A crack, a splash, and a very cold fox.
- Grandfather Frog, half asleep in the mud, is entirely unimpressed.
- Granny hauls him out and says only: 'Next time?'
