The Windward Promenade

The promenade is at gentle afternoon. Soft light catches the brass bandstand and the tall clocktower at the center of the street, its gilt dial catching the sun. Awnings flutter in navy and cream, and shopfronts line both sides — a cartographer, a balloon club, a kite shop, a tea room, a confectionery, and the grand hotel at the corner. The great observation balloon tugs at its moorings while a dirigible drifts above the rooftops. Every doorway here leads somewhere.
