Happy Jack lives high in the Great Oak in a round leafy nest that sways in the wind and never once has blown down.
He is the busiest, cheeriest, most scatter-brained person in the Green Forest. All autumn he buries nuts everywhere, and all winter he digs hopefully in places where he is almost sure he left one.
The forgotten nuts grow into new oak trees. Happy Jack has planted more of the Green Forest than anyone alive, entirely by accident.
