Paddy came up the Laughing Brook one spring, looked at a narrow place between two banks, and decided it wanted a pond. Nobody was consulted.
He works all night, every night, and the pond he made is now the finest place in the Green Forest — full of fish, frogs, herons and dragonflies that were never there before.
Paddy talks little and finishes everything he starts. When the forest needs a bridge, a dam or a good idea, they go to the pond.
