Peter and the Thing in the Hollow Log

The story

1. A rumbling snore rolls out of the old hollow log at dusk.
2. Peter imagines something enormous and terrible inside.
3. He gathers his courage all night long and returns at sunrise.
4. One eye peeks in — it is only Jimmy Skunk, fast asleep.
5. Jimmy wakes, unbothered, and offers Peter half a beetle breakfast.
6. They laugh together on the log as the birds start up.
