The story
- Dawn in the Briar-Patch. Peter promises himself he will stay home today.
- A strange new smell drifts up the Lone Little Path. Off he goes.
- Reddy Fox is watching from the stone wall, patient as a Sunday.
- The chase — zigzag, hedge, brook, tumble.
- Peter dives into the briars with one white tuft of fur left behind on a thorn.
- Evening. Peter, safe, tells himself he has learned his lesson. He has not.
